Check If You Have Ever Been Hacked

After writing about Dropbox’s latest issues i remembered a site i came across a while back that is doing a huge amount for people that have had their user names, emails, passwords and credit cards stolen.

Troy Hunt is the Australian mastermind behind this free platform and it seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Pwned now has a database of over 1.3 billion pwned accounts from 129 companies with some serious problems for people using services such as MySpace, LinkedIn, Adobe, Dropbox and tumblr totalling 820 million accounts. Hunt tracks down these hacked accounts the same way as the bad guys do but he’s helping the victims of these situations.

According to Pwned I myself have been hacked

Running my own email address through Pwned i found out that i had 2 account breaches from my Adobe and MySpace accounts. Using haveibeenpwned is simple, you enter your email address and Pwned does the rest showing breaches you were involved in. With well over 10 thousands visitors each day and more and more large scale companies being hacked the service Pwned offers is crucial going forward.

What the hackers are after

  • Usernames
  • Email address
  • Passwords
  • Password hints
  • Credit Cards

The best way to stay ahead of hackers is consistently changing your password, using services such as PayPal and avoid using the same password hint question and answers. The companies that are being hacked can only do so much to keep your information safe and hackers are continually looking for vulnerabilities to expose. Remember if one email address and password are hacked, those details can be used to attempt to log into other services.

Keep safe people
